Provided components:

• CCD Camera with auto-iris zoom lens
• Image acquisition board and video cable
• WaterMaze data collection and analysis software
• Digital input/output board and interface box for Atlantis control and remote switch input (see below)

System requirements:

• Desktop Pentium computer with room for 1 PCI slot
• Windows 95/98/2000/XP
• 256 MBytes of memory
• 1024x768 monitor resolution
• If trial video images are to be stored to disk, a large harddrive and fast CD burner are recommended.

Remote Switches and Atlantis Control

• The video board accommodates a single switch input, which can be configured to start and stop a trial. A second digital board and interface (provided) can be used for additional switch inputs, in which case separate buttons can be configured for start and stop functions. Switches are connected through the interface box using BNC (standard coaxial) connectors. Multiple switches for each function can be wired in parallel and placed at multiple locations around the pool.

• The digital interface board also supports control of Atlantis or On Demand platforms. These platforms sit far below the surface until the program detects that the animal has remained over the platform for a pre-specified time period. The platform then rises up to the surface. Use of the on-demand platform prevents the animal from using a random search strategy for finding the platform.
