Detecting motion in
video images

A
difference image taken from the two successive frames at right.
The brighter the pixel, the greater the difference between images.
Here, the outline of the mouse is visible because it has turned
very slightly between frames, creating significant differences
along its edges. FreezeFrame reports "motion". Even
smaller movements can be detected reliably.

Here,
the mouse has not moved between frames. The image is not uniformly
gray because of digitization noise (which is proportionately greater
in the brighter areas than in the darker ones). FreezeFrame's analysis
method distinguishes this "snow" from real motion and
reports "freezing". |
